usb cam not working

Post by MarKel »

hello i installed the live-cd today and i would like to use my logitech usb webcam to capture. it seems the dir. dev/devices is empty. when i look at the usbview (found under star - system - configuration - hardware - usbview the system detects that my webcam is present.

its strange that for the devices file the system tells me to look in proc instead of dev/devices

but when i try to add a monitor it doesn't work.

any hints ?

Im sorry that I can offer no help on usb cams, as I have no experience with them. I see from the hardware compatibility list forum that some have had to recompile their kernel with drivers for particular web cams. If you succeed in making yours work, please post your results for us.

Best regards,

I installed LiveCD 1.19.5 yesterday, and had it up and running in a couple of hours. I had the camera connected from the start, and it detected to a working installation. Good job on that live CD Ross!

My machine is a Shuttle using only the onboard video, 1/2Gig RAM and 2Gig CPU. Camera is a DEXXA from a couple of years back. It is identified as Logitec-Quick CAM and seems to be happy with that. There was a bit of fiddling about, but when I as a Linux newbie can get it running in about two hours, it is easy! ;)
