eyeZM not working over cellular data anymore?

I sent this to the eyeZM support guys, but wanted to post here in case anyone else had any advice.

I have been using eyeZM with my ZoneMinder installation for some time, but recently I noticed that I cannot see the video feed/image thumbnails of my monitors (via individual Live Feed or the Montage) over the AT&T cellular network on my iPhone 4S or my wife's iPhone 4. If I connect to WiFi, everything works fine. Over 3G or 4G I can control everything else through eyeZM (server state, monitor lists, etc.) but just get no video.

If I do a test connection in the eyeZM app, it works fine except for the "server supports a feature-set version higher than eyeZM app. Upgrade your application to enable all features."

This makes me wonder if AT&T is blocking something? Seems odd, but I can't explain why everything would work fine over a WiFi connection but not 3G/4G.

I'm using v1.25.0 of ZoneMinder on Ubuntu 12.04. I don't know exactly when this started happening, but I'm pretty sure it was within the last two weeks or so (not back when I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 and re-installed the v1.25.0 package for Precise).

Sounds like cell operator is blocking something. Iphone supports vpn connections, if your router supports them too that might be a work-around. Not experienced with eyezm though

Thanks for the suggestion! I do have a VPN set up on my router but it hadn't occurred to me to try that.

I had to create a new server profile in eyeZM for the VPN connection (due to port-forwarding and so eyeZM would use the server's IP address in the URL instead of my internet domain), but that worked. Over 4G, VPN'ed in, I was able to see all my monitor's thumbnails and live feeds. I guess I still have some more testing to do, but it does seems like it could be an AT&T thing. Hmmm.

Isn't everything through eyeZM just XML, though? I wonder what could be blocked that would cause the problem.

Still not having any luck figuring this out ... it works fine through the VPN, but not a regular cellular 4G connection like it used to. I can access ZoneMinder via Chrome on my iPhone over 4G though (no VPN), so I figure it has to be something with the app or plugin and not my router or setup.

Any other ideas?

I figured it out!

I have no idea why, but switching PATH_ZMS on the Paths tab from /cgi-bin/nph-zms to just /cgi-bin/zms resolved the issue. I can now see the live video streams over 4G again!
