zmu aborted

I installed zoneminder v1.23.3 by running apt-get install zoneminder on my ubuntu intrepid.
My web cam works when testing it in xawtv
I added the monitor to zoneminder but i cannot view it streaming or stills.
when i run zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v
i get Aborted.
Any ideas?

i had to use the command with sudo.
but this fixed the viewing problem:
