Installation issues

I followed the tutorial (http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... _interface) to install Zoneminder on Ubuntu 9.04 with a Brooktree BT878 card. At first only one of the labels was in Orange and the other was red. The image appeared entirely black. Then I followed the optional steps at the end of the tutorial (Increase shared memory maximum block size) and now both the "Function" and "Source" text is orange. However that image now appears as a broken link and not a black screen. I still cannot see the video. I am so close! I know that it used to work because I once had it installed on Mandriva with the same hardware. It should work, but I don't know what step I am missing. Any ideas?

did you reboot and check that memory shared memory was really set
