Cannot View Event Video

I'm currently running ZM 1.30.4 on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS. I had a previous, identical installation (at least I'm pretty sure it was identical except for this problem) on a VM server running with no issues. Same cameras, same config, etc.

I built a more powerful VM server and created a new, clean VM and installed Zoneminder according to the Easy Way: Ubuntu 16.04 installation guide. Live streaming works, filters are working, defined zones and motion detection are working and events are captured and logged. The trouble is replaying recorded event video. When I try to playback it will display one frame from the event then immediately go black displaying "Time to next event = X seconds". This happens regardless of web browser and also happens in zmNinja. Still images display and I can download the event video file and it will play fine on the computer.

I've double checked the CGI paths, all seem correct. I did change the PATH_ZMS from /zm/cgi-bin/nph-zms to just /zm/cgi-bin/zms with no differences noted.

Here's the logfile for the last 10 minutes after a ZM restart. During this time I did several live views and tried to view events individually and via montage.

Changed PATH_SWAP and restarted ZM. No change. Still won't playback events.

Following up on this again. Tried many different things then gave up for a while. Yesterday, the inability to playback events finally bugged me enough to create another brand new VM install for Zoneminder. Same directions, same set up, no issues except event playback still doesn't work. Displays one frame then goes black. I can pull up the still images and scroll through them and download the entire event video for playback. But I cannot review any event playback in a browser or zmNinja.

Here's the interesting thing I did differently this time. I set one camera to record continuously and I CAN playback the continuous recordings without any issue. What the heck...

I am also getting this. Not often, and on different cameras. But often enough to be a problem. I lothe to try the fix below as then the events start too late. viewtopic.php?f=29&t=21511

Also, tmpfs is 3% and my swap is almost untouched. But it is using a bit so I may try bumping the ram. it is a VM after all.

Check your apache logs. I'll bet you are getting a lot of 404's on the cgi request.

There is a script that make the install easy. You will still need to set up the cameras. Also, use a minimal Ubuntu install with a net install .iso.

Nothing in the apache logs. OK, the FQDN error, and that is about it.

I did you that recipe on an Ubuntu server install. Went thought it more then twice as I missed a pathing setting.

Any new updates on this issue? Same issue using version v1.34.12

I noticed chrome is a little more forgiving in that it will allow you to skip to the next set once the message comes up. In firefox it gives a black screen and seems to not play anything else.

I'm going to reinstall the whole system, these errors are popping up all over. I'm wondering if I should go back a few versions before this was an issue?
