Can ZM control PTZ on generic security cameras?

Post by eiger3970 »

Hello, my generic security camera software won't control the PTZ as only the IE browser is accepted.
If I install ZM, would ZM be able to control the PTZ please?
Here's the specs if it helps:
  • Model: IPG-7920PSS-AI
  • Location: Browser -> log in to camera -> Remote Settings -> System Config -> Device Info -> Basic Info
  • Name: IPC
  • Serial number: I207414A5AEC41E0CED4F23
  • Software version: 1.0.10-20200805CN_PT
  • Web version: 19.08.01.6929

Are you Interesting-Yak-8218 on Reddit?
Anyway, if the camera is onvif compliant, probably. It may take some additional sleuthing on your part, though.
ZoneMinder is cheap, $0.00, so why not try it out?

Thanks, install's not so easy though.
If I understand correctly, ZM is an OS?
That means I can't install it as an app on a desktop and will need to run a VM right?

ZM is not an OS -- it runs as an application, with many components, under your existing operating system (e.g. for me, Slackware). It needs "LAMP" (Linux, Apache webserver, MySQL (or MariaDB), and PHP) to be installed.

You *could* run it in a VM, but that VM would need an OS as well as ZoneMinder ... one advantage of testing it in a VM, if it doesn't work, or it all goes wrong, you can just remove the VM and nothing else changed ;)

I kinda wish there was an upvote button on here. I wonder if there's one that could be turned on...

Thank you for making clear that ZoneMinder is not an OS.
Well, I think this post has been answered.

I'll need to move on to how to install ZoneMinder on Linux Mint 21.3 Virginia Cinnamon 64-bit. viewtopic.php?t=33122
The Linux Mint Software Manager installed:
Name: zoneminder
Version: 1.36.12+dfsg1-1
I opened a browser and http://localhost/zm/ shows error: This page isn't working. localhost is currently unable to handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500.

See my replay to your other post. I know it works on regular Ubuntu, so should work on Mint.
