Zoneminder, Firetide Wireless network, Install thread

Post by corvettecasey »

We have an old setup that has died a horrible death years ago.. I have been charged with rebuilding the software side of the setup.. I will be loading Firetide Hotview Pro wireless network software for the campus buildings. (same equipment and software as the old setup)
https://www.firetide.com/

All the cameras are connected to/through 28 HotPort 7020 mesh node radios coming back to the central servers. The infrastructure is there and still working.
https://wirelessunits.com/firetide-hotp ... 00mw-node/

We have the following cameras:
10 > Axis Q6032-E ptz
https://www.axis.com/products/axis-q6032-e/support

60 > 2.0mp-hd-h264-dp1

3 > 11mp-hd-pro-m With 35mm f2 lens

10 > 5.0mp-hd-dn with Fuji 8-80mm f1.6 auto iris
https://www.sourcesecurity.com/avigilon ... tails.html

The servers we have are 4 x Dell Poweredge R710's with a total of 40tb of drives, 1 of the servers will be used for Firetide.

I am wanting to load Zoneminder on the servers to accomplish:

1. record and save all video
2. live view the video on a station/computer monitored 24/7
3. Be able to move the PTZ cameras

This system is a stand alone offline system so everything will be loaded from disks.

I know from reading most of the posts about larger installs that Zoneminder is really built for smaller installs. With that said, do you think I can get this to work? I have 4 cameras at my house connected to my Synology NAS and I configured everything for them. I load and update offline systems all the time so that is easy.

Thanks for looking over my post, I know it is a lot on the first post..

Casey

Actually, zm is quite scalable, it just starts small for most of us home-type users.
PTZ is doable, but you might need to modify an existing or make your own script(s) to do so.
What little I read at firetide and the cameras you have suggest they are using IP over radio, so they shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks, You are correct, it is IP over radios, so hopefully that will not be a problem.. I am just starting to unravel the madness involved with this setup.. I am going to start out small and work my way out of the main building as I go.. I will keep everyone following along apprised of the progress..

I've gone to over 800 cameras spread across 75 servers. ZM scales.

If you need help, support is available.

Wow, that is great to hear.. Trust me, I am not afraid to ask for help.. There is no better way to learn than from asking for help and trying, failing, trying again till it works..

How many cameras should I put on each server? I was not sure if I should split them in half for recording purposes on 2 servers and leaving 1 server as a processing/viewing server.. or can each server do all of it at once.. I have not gone that far into setting the servers up yet and researching exactly how to set them up.. I will figure it out and ask questions as I go..

Speaking of that, Every forum has a way of doing things.. Do you all like to keep everything under 1 thread or do you just start another thread for each question? I looked but did not find many build threads..

It's pretty quiet here. Let's just stick to this thread. As to how many cameras per server too many variables at play. Add cameras until it is at 74% capacity. Then add another. Or website that you can lose a server at any time and keep going. Up to you.
