I have managed to change Apache2's user and group to www-data (used the gui and right clicked to get properties)

Eventually figured out how to do it in terminal as well, so I'm learning eventually...

I don't have a etc/httpd/conf/http.conf file, but I do have
etc/apache2/httpd.conf file, which is empty and the user and group are both set to root.

Do I change it?

I've just got the hang of this sudo chown thingy - itching to use it...

I am happy and relieved to say that everything is chowned good and proper!

Now then...

I know that it saves the images in some wierd and convoluted directory structure. O.K. I'll grudgingly accept that, as long as zoneminder accepts it.

If I take say Event 310 and look at the first blank image placement and view image, it comes up:

Not Found

The requested URL /usr/share/zoneminder/events/1/09/11/15/17/18/10/001-capture.jpg was not found on this server.
Apache/2.2.11 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.2.6-3ubuntu4.2 with Suhosin-Patch Server at localhost Port 80

But if I actually trawl down to, in the above case:
/usr/share/zoneminder/events/1/09/11/15/17/18/10/001-capture.jpg
It's there in glorious technicolour (ish)

so it knows exactly where it is, but can't find it....

Getting back to that empty file /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
I've inserted the line as suggested in:
http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... ecurity.3F
There are 4 cgi-bin's on my computer, I've used the one in /usr/share/zoneminder/ would that be right?

Don't suppose someone could send me a copy of their httpd.conf just to see what's meant to be in there, could they?

And it doesn't stream anymore in the main window...

The solution was given to me by a very nice person on the Ubuntu forum:


"Open synaptic, and completely remove the following packages:

zoneminder, mysql-server- mysql-server5.1 and mysql-server-core apache2 ...

***MAKE SURE YOU MARK THEM FOR COMPLETE REMOVAL*** This will remove all of the configuration files and everything... DO NOT just uninstall them... Use synaptic, it's the easiest. AFTER you have COMPLETELY REMOVED the packages, then reinstall, and it should work. "

Then I logged in as root, used Synaptic to install Zoneminder, followed the instructions:

I was needing someone who had a few years of experience to convince me to wipe and start again

That link should give you a 404... link should be from events and up...
