ffmpeg replaced by avconv? (debian)

Post by PacoLM »

Hi,

I'm doing some tests installing ZM 1.25 in ARM based devices. After finishing the installation and setup, when creating a video of an event it fails (I'm working on fixing this), the ffmpeg.log shows this advice:

Code: Select all

ffmpeg version 0.8.1-5:0.8.1-4, Copyright (c) 2000-2011 the Libav developers
  built on Mar 30 2012 23:32:38 with gcc 4.6.2
*** THIS PROGRAM IS DEPRECATED ***
This program is only provided for compatibility and will be removed in a future release. Please use avconv instead.
Is ZM going to support avconv and/or ffmpeg?.

Regards,

PacoLM

paco,

it already supports FFMPEG.... (just install the ffmpeg libs and set the use ffmpeg option at zm)
Zoneminder @Ubuntu 11 server, ZM 1.25.0 , FFMPEG, 4 Analoge cameras, 1.6ghz P4mobile, 2GB ram, 60GB-HDD.
I also have an (homeseer) domotica system up-and-running with touchscreens, light controllers, weather forecast etc.

Yes, I know that ZM supports ffmpeg, but ffmpeg is going to be deprecated, as the message says. My question was if zoneminder is going to migrate from ffmepg to avconv.

they just are breaking the old command line compat avconv is just the most likely new name for the command line but ffmpeg command line will still be around for awhile. More details see:

I hope that Zoneminder will have the option of using original ffmpeg like it does currently. I just finished figuring out that my Axis M3114 camera is not compatible with the latest libav (avconv), and that I needed to install the most recent ffmpeg to get it to work.

And that makes a lot of sense, as ffmeg is back (at least to Ubuntu).
