Best way to upgrade from 1.24.2 - Ubuntu packages 10.04 LTS

Post by moorsey »

Hi all,

I am wanting to upgrade to the latest version of Zoneminder.

When I first installed Zoneminder, I did it from the package manager in Ubuntu, so as these are no longer updated (or maybe only with a later Ubuntu release?) I guess I need to go over to updating from source.

What is the best way to go about this? Remove the Zoneminder packages and then follow instructions for installing from source (which seem pretty complicated for someone like me!), as the database is separate, I guess that will stay intact and work assuming Zoneminder gets the same credentials. How about settings etc?

I don't want something to go astray and Zonminder start tidying up either the database or my recordings if it can't match the two up.

Any tips appreciated

I tried upgrading, and had some difficulty. Couldn't make it work.

IMHO, it's just much easier to do a complete re-install. New Ubuntu, follow instructions on 1.25 install to the letter.

Change settings as needed (and for me, move the recording partition).

I, however, use it for security camera video. So I didn't need to keep it.

If the database schema changed between releases, the database would need upgraded also. Were there and schema changes between the releases?
