appropriate settings for shared memory ?

Post by lewis »

hello all,

i've setup Zoneminder in a Debian GNU/Linux wheezy/sid box with 1gb ram.
i have 11 ip cameras (right now working only 6 of them) most of them 640x480 so i wanted to know the appropriate settings for shared memory..

i cannot get to work a vivotec fd6122 camera (the 7th one), i get a black screen, so i suppose its a shared memory problem..

any help would be appreciated.

After more than 15 years, no longer using ZM as surveillance system.
Now in the dark side, using a commercial system...

Have you checked that the settings are saved in the file /etc/sysctl.conf, after the reboot?. Running the script of the first topic only shows the values, no change is done in the system.

root@Stalin:~# ./checksharedmemory.sh
--- Checking memory setting...
-- Total memory = 1051865088 B = 1003 MB
-- Page size = 4096 B
-- Current kernel.shmmax = 946678579 B = 902 MB
-- Current kernel.shmall = 256803 pages
-- Recommended shm values already set
--- Done.

since this is a virtual server, should i give it more memory ?
for example 2gb of ram ?

Since is a 11 camera system, have you tried to enable them one by one and confirm that all of them work individually?. Just an idea to advance step by step and don't mix problems (if they are!).

What is in the logs (usually /var/log/syslog ), after restarting zoneminder?
