Total n00b: How do I start it?

Post by desertdude »

I know virtually nothing about Linux. I read about ZoneMinder and decided to give it a whirl.

I d/l the ZMLarch live and installed that fine. Nothing weird happened. It said there were 201 upgrades so I did those.

I see the ZM stuff is all out there when I snoop around on the hard drive.

How do I start it?

How do I add it to the applications list? Or create its own icon to run it?

I've had time to do lots of reading. I found somewhere that I should type:
sudo zmpkg.pl start
to start it. When I do that, it asks for my password, which I give it.
Then I get:
Bareword "ZM_PATH_MAP" not allowed while "strict subs" in use at /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder/Memory/Mapped.pm line 83.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder/Memory.pm line 120
Compilation failed in require at /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder.pm line 37.
BEGIN failed --compilation aborted at /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0/ZoneMinder.pm line 37.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/local/bin/zmpkg.pl line 45.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/local/bin/zmpkg.pl line 45.

Any hints?
