*solved* can't use zmu and good resolution

Post by amael »

Hi!

I use Zoneminder on a ubuntu 7.04 for a few day, and I'm a beginner with both linux and zoneminder. My ZM is working well with my hercules Classic webcam, but with a very poor resolution of 160*120.

I think it could be possible to have a resolution of 640*480, but when I try to set this resolution, the name of the camera become red in the console, and I can't get images. /var/log/messages indicates just :
..
INF ['zmc -d /dev/video0' started at ...]
INF [Debug Level = 0, Debug Log = <none>]

When I try to use ~$zmu -q /dev/video0 -q -v
I receive:
Abandon (core dumped)

What does it mean ? I'm sorry, but I haven't found help on previous topics of this forum, and no settings for my cam.

Thank you very much!

You may have shared memory issues. Try fully restarting ZM after you make the change and read the FAQ in the Wiki.

thanks a lot!

I change the resolution to 384*288 and it's working.

Now, I have just a little problem with streaming when I want to replay an event. I can see stills picture but Stream doesn't work. I have just a blank frame with the number of the event, even if the progress bar is working well.

I'll try to find a solution.

Thanks a lot for this software!

Hi!

I try a lot of things, but I have always the same problem: I can see streaming in live, but not in replay! I downloaded a lot of codec and plug-in. My ffmpeg works well. I use Firefox (I also try with Konqueror), and I thougt it was able to read stream without other plug-in, so I don't understand.

Any idea ?

Thank you !

I re-installed my zm using

Code: Select all

./configure --with-webdir=/var/www/zm --with-cgidir=/usr/lib/cgi-bin --with-webuser=www-data --with-webgroup=www-data --with-ffmpeg=/usr/bin
instead of

Code: Select all

./configure --with-webdir=/var/www/zm --with-cgidir=/usr/lib/cgi-bin --with-webuser=www-data --with-webgroup=www-data
And now, replays are working well. But when I try to create a video, I receive: Video Generation Failed!

My zmvideo.log says:

Code: Select all

04/30/07 15:27:46.987433 zmvideo[6330].INF [Creating video file Event-2-r1-s1.mpg for event 2]
04/30/07 15:27:46.990162 zmvideo[6330].ERR [Unable to generate video, check /var/www/zm/events/1/2/ffmpeg.log for details]
So I tried to see ffmpeg.log, but there isn't such file in this directory.

I'm sorry to ask you a lot of questions, but I'm a little bit lost...

thank you!

all is good !

after re-installing ZM without --with-ffmpeg=... and changing zmvideo.pl line 323 and changing ZM_PATH_ZMS=/cgi-bin/nph-zms to ZM_PATH_ZMS=/cgi-bin/zms, everything is working well !

Thank you !

For others thinking about Feisty, I posted some install instructions in the wiki that uses Peter Howard's deb packages. Much easier than compiling from source...
