1.32.2 to 1.36.33 on Debian 10 (Buster)

Post by GeorgeCostanza »

Hi

I’m currently running an old ZM install on an old Debian install, and would like some advise.

What I’m running:

Code: Select all

 xxx@yyy~$ sudo apt show zoneminder
[sudo] lösenord för xxx:
Package: zoneminder
Version: 2:1.32.3-dmo4+deb10u2
Priority: optional
Section: graphics
Source: zoneminder-dmo
Maintainer: Christian Marillat <marillat@deb-multimedia.org>
Bugs: mailto:marillat@deb-multimedia.org
Installed-Size: 25,5 MB
Am I advised to upgrade just my ZM install to 1.36.33 and keep my old Debian, or would it be better to upgrade my Debian to 12 first?

I’m inclined to do the first, but I haven’t found out how. Any pointers?

On second thought, I think I might upgrade my Debian to the latest, 12.4, first.
Once that is done, is there a way to update ZM to 1.36.33 while keeping my configuration, or is a reinstall recommended?

Is it possible to do a clean install, and then apply the config from the old install?

Yes, you can backup then restore. You may need to run zmupdate.pl -f or zmupdate.pl after restoring.
Instructions are here: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/MySQL#Backup

Backing up the config only is faster if you don't need the events.
fastest way to test streams:
ffmpeg -i rtsp://<user>:<pass>@<ipaddress>:554/path ./output.mp4 (if terminal only)
ffplay rtsp://<user>:<pass>@<ipaddress>:554/path (gui)
find paths on ispydb or in zm hcl

Thanks!
I’ll read up on backup and restore procedures, and after that I will hopefully feel confident in upgrading my system to the latest and greatest released version.
