does purge when full only purge active cameras?

Post by aarons6 »

so i was checking my drive and i noticed that an old camera that i took out and replaced still has some videos on one of my drives.
i have purge when full enabled and its at 99%.

when i go into zm and i click on the total events down at the bottom, it loads those old videos as the first few pages.

these old videos should have been purged months ago.. but they are still there.
any reason why they were skipped?

Are they archived? ZM will not delete archived video.

So you made a new entry for the replacement camera.
Is the name you gave the new one the same as the old?

no, i just turned off the old camera and left it so it had the old videos, just incase i needed them.
but i figured it would eventually delete them to recover the drive space. but it didnt.

i just deleted them manually.

So, ran a test to see if old records would delete if the camera was simply turned off.
My result was "Yes, they are".

Don't know what happened in your case.

Purge when full filter does not by default look at monitor status. It should sort by age, deleting oldest first.

It might delete more events from 1 monitor over another, if they were more frequent, but literally it should delete oldest first.

Yes. That's been my experience, precisely.

I've found for my installs that purge at 95% disk full can be a problem. Especially with a many monitors recording. for a "normal" install I change the 95% to 85% which allows a free space cushion for the purge when full to catch up with the disk writes. By "normal" I mean the ZM install on a single disk. With the storage on a separate disk you can set up a purge when full filter for that disk.
