Passthrough live view

Post by mar1ram »

Is there a way to use the copy codec with ffmpeg to avoid encoding for live view? I'm using a Raspberry Pi 4 and would like to avoid taxing its CPU with encoding an otherwise perfectly fine h264 stream. I've tried using different variations of vcodec=copy in the monitors' options field to no avail.

Does using the Camera Passthrough in Storage/Video writer work for you? I loaded up my Pi4 with Zoneminder as a test and am please with the performance with two cams at 1080P. Reducing the resolution I'm sure I could add several more cams.

The video writer option only applies to recording as far as I know. I have it set to Passthrough, which works for my recordings. It doesn't affect live view, and I can still see the CPU working hard to encode.

On a related note, I've tried enabling LOG_FFMPEG but I can't tell where the logs are going. Any idea where they end up?
