You do not have permissions to access this resource.

Post by montreal73 »

Hi,

The message box continues with "Please contact your adminstrator for details."

I have tried talking to myself but I do not seem very knowledgeable.

Ububtu 20.04 Zoneminder 1.36.26

I am signed in as admin*

Username Language Enabled Stream Events Control Monitors Groups Snapshots System Devices Bandwidth Monitor API Enabled Mark
admin* en_us Yes View View View View View Edit View View Yes

When I try and make any changes such as adding another camera, I get the "do not have permissions" message.

I have OPT_USE_AUTH turned on to use zmninja and I suspect the security setting might be related but the check box is greyed out so I cannot turn it off.

I did some searches but all I could find was this: viewtopic.php?t=376 which suggested I delete the zmdc.sock file but Locate does not find such a file.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Everything needs to be Edit except Stream which will only do view.

I never mess with the default admin user except to change the password. I create another "admin" user with my user name and give myself Edit authority to everything. If my user gets messed up I can always log in as the default admin to fix things. If you can not change System to edit you will have to disable the log in to change it or remove and recreate the ZM database.

Weird, I do not remember changing any of the admin defaults. But they must be different since I was able to set up 9 cameras and change the security settings.

Recreating the ZM database means having to redo all the cameras? That would suck.

"you will have to disable the log in to change it" Is there an easy way to do this?

I’d suggest editing the DB you have. You +an either turn off authentication or just update the bits you want to change from view to edit.

OK, but the Zoneminder GUI is not going to let me because admin only seems to be allowed to view, not edit. So it sounds like I need to edit the zm.conf file mentioned in https://zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/st ... files.html

By any chance is the server exposed to the internet? If so it is possible you were hacked. Might be better off to wipe the server and start over.

Good catch! At an earlier point/installation, I had been testing Zoneminder with http, so I allowed that through the firewall. Once that worked, I set up https but must have forgotten to disallow http.

I have reset my firewall so no http or https at the moment.

I used the work-around from the link and it worked. I changed my admin password and hash clue and then reedited the zm.conf to normal. Everything seems to be working.

The safest thing would be to do a total reinstall of ubuntu and zoneminder but I am hoping fixing the firewall was enough.

Anyone have an opinion or suggestion of what I should check?

If you had a good password set in Ubuntu it is unlikely the OS was hacked. Make sure you change the ZM admin password and insure you had a password set in MySQL or Mariadb, whichever you use. Also set another user in ZM with admin authority.
