Strange issue after switch from sd to ssd

Post by andre1210 »

Hi,
maybe someone has any hint for me.

I'm using zoneminder 1.36.18 on a raspberrypi 4 with 2 cameras for some time without any issues.

Now I switched to SSD (one try with SD copier, and second try with play dd). No other changes.
I have an external cacti monitoring. I observe some random cpu loads about 50 for some minutes every 3-6 hours. The normal average load is 1.7 - 2
Yesterday I had a chance to have a ssh session during occurrence. I observed zmc processes causing the cpu load.
iostats showed me high wrqm/s and a utilization of sda (the sdd) about 200%.

When I remove the ssd and put the sd card back in, the load peaks are gone.
I did a second try to copy the sd card to ssd, but the same issue.
I tested the ssd previously on a notebook with ubuntu without issues.

Add info: The same time I switched another pi to ssd with the same components (same USB SATA adapter, same Kingston SSD) without issues - but no zoneminder.

In syslog and zoneminder log there is nothing that give me a hint.

- Debian 11
- OS and zoneminder on same partition (rootfs).
- UASP is used (dd write test of 100MB chunks gives ~190MB/s)

It is hard to have an ssh session during occurance, first due to the random occasions and second due to high load no session can be established.

Has anyone any ideas?

thank you
BR
André

One update, I think it is the USB 3.0 sata adapter. Switched to an old one without uas and the problem is gone. Found additionally someone who posted problems with the JSAUX adapter. Ordered now another that is recommended as working (StarTech)
