RSTP connection issues
RSTP connection issues
Hi there,
I'm trying to connect to connect my security cams with zoneminder but with no real success...
I run v1.30 zm with a raspberri pi 3 on raspbian and my Security cams are from SANNCE group (1080 H264 IP)
Everything work with vlc with this line :
rtsp://[IPADDRESS]:554/user=[USERNAME]&password=[PASSWORD]&channel=[CHANNELNUMBER]&stream=0.sdp?real_stream--rtp-caching=100
But when i'm trying to set up zm, nothing happen, as i'm a newbie with zm i'm sure that it's my fault not doing right things
Someone can help me with the set up ?
Thanks !

Re: RSTP connection issues
Two common errors:
PATH_ZMS is not set to /zm/cgi-bin/nph-zms
Camera resolution in Zoneminder does not match camera output. Use VLC (Tools, Media Information, Codec) to check camera Display Resolution. If your camera is a high resolution, halve the value you see in VLC until it works.

Re: RSTP connection issues
Hi bbunge, thanks for your answer.
my nph-zms (which is a executable file) is in /usr/lib/zoneminder path and I can not "vi" it to modify PATH_ZMS...
Camera resolution in VLC :
Codec MPEG-H Part2/HEVC (H.265)
Video resolution 1920x1080
In Picture my ZM setup

Re: RSTP connection issues
Look in Zoneminder Options Paths for path_zms
Use source type ffmpeg for cams that use rtsp

Re: RSTP connection issues
path_zms is OK and source is ffmpeg... and ffpmeg is installed and works...
zm kills me...!!!! far from being simple on a rtsp setup

Re: RSTP connection issues
Look at post #2 again. Camera Resolution in VLC must be the same in ZM. You have 1920x1080 in VLC, and 640x480 in ZM.
The only other thing you 'might' try is libVLC, but first get the resolution right. FFMPEG will probably work.

Re: RSTP connection issues
Not working. window's monitor stay blank even on 1920x1080 resolution...
I'll dig in libVLC maybe. I don't know it but i'll surely find a tutorial somewhere...i guess lol

Re: RSTP connection issues
As we have said many times, get the stream to work in VLC and it will work in Zoneminder!
Use Firefox not Chrome
Use the resolution shown in VLC. You can also use half the VLC value.
Make sure you have space in /dev/shm High res can eat up space.
Turn down the frame rate at the cam. 5 fps is plenty to start.
Check the wiki to see if your camera has a listing for zm settings.

Re: RSTP connection issues
Maybe try 32 bit colorspace too. Seems to me that made a big difference when I was running 1.30.
Re: RSTP connection issues
VLC is still working getting the image...but still no success with "zombie minder" ^^
But in zm logs i found these lines
WAR : [The device is using a codec that may not be supported. Do not be surprised if things don't work.]

Re: RSTP connection issues
You should also show the other tabs. It helps people know exactly what you have. Some of this stuff interacts.
For Source Type try Ffmpeg and for Method use TCP.
I am looking at v1.33.14, so the terminology may be slightly different on your version.

Re: RSTP connection issues
You appear to still be using Chromium. Please try Firefox.
Re: RSTP connection issues
You should not have any Max FPS settings, remove that.
Chromium should work OK if it's up to date.
Flash Raspbian Buster on the RPI and use 1.32.3 in the Raspbian repos. But you should first lower the resolution and FPS of the cameras. 1920x1080 on an RPI is too high to start with. With the RPI, you start with a low resolution, and scale up until the stream starts to drop out. You shouldn't start at a high resolution, because it just might not work.
You could also try these cameras on an x86-64 computer with 1.33 or 1.32 and see if they work.
