Events Prior to Upgrade Lost

Post by wh33lz »

Unexpectedly received the update from 1.30.4 ( Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS LAMP ) while performing the usual apt-get dist-upgrade.

Some quirks but looking good so far.

Just need to know... where have all my prior events before update gone.
I had some images of a car theft the other day, and really needed those.

Did you take a backup of your database? If so I'd love to have to test with.

I had the same thing happen to me yesterday and I'm really PO'd.

I received the usual notification of updates available (Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS (GNU/Linux 4.15.0-34-generic x86_64)). It was a decent time to install them as I needed to reboot my server. Then last night noticed that 2TB of camera images, INCLUDING ARCHIVED EVENTS, were gone. Disk usage was down to about 15% instead of the usual 97% as shown by 'df'.

Also the console interface looks like crap with fields like "Name" and "Source:" followed by "text or regular expressi"... When I click on a camera name, the formatting is totally off as well as when I try to look at Events and everything is run together as if tabs aren't being expanded. Try to look at an event? I get the Event number, "Rename" button and then the rest of the buttons are one per line down the left side. Playback buttons beneath the image don't work at all.

If I had specifically asked for the update, I would have researched and backed up before installing. I was blindsided by this and am quite frustrated by the mess that has been made. That I now need to research and fix IF I want to continue using Zoneminder.

Oh, and my lost ARCHIVED images... Like I said above, and I'm usually much more tactful, I'm really PO'd.

F.Y.I. ZM 1.30.4 can still be installed on Bionic. And I also have a copy of the Xenial install packages for 1.30.4

If anyone reading this doesn't already have a backup script setup for their install, they should see this post: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=23815

Sorry no backup.
It was not until I noticed all the Mysql database updates that I realized this was just not another minor daily update.

I was using the recommended linked storage method with 1.30.4, and all the directories were deleted and replaced with a single folder just for that date.

The program is now using 2 storage locations for events, /var/cache/zoneminder as well as the former linked folder.
I guess I have to remove the link...once I can remember where it was.

Just a *me too* message. EL7.5 updated from 1.30.4 to 1.32.0 and it seemed to decide that all prior events didn't exist. Saw lots of messages like this:

I'm extremely PO with this myself. 16TB of recordings gone, 90 days worth over 23 cameras in a busy central London office.
This upgrade slipped through on a colleagues casual 'yum update', and blew away all of our recorded content. The interface was a mess, and needed manual intervention to restore access too.

What a failure of an update guys.
