I have recently installed zoneminder for the first time on a raspberry pi, running arch linux(following the guide here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ZoneMinder). Using software such as guvcview yield expected results with my Trust 16429 webcam, that is an accurate image at various resolutions. However, upon using with with zoneminder in record mode, all the images in the /var/cache/zoneminder/events directory look like the attached image. That is, a hint of detail in a sea of noise.
I have tried multiple settings including changing resolution, colorspace, device format and capture palette(according to guvcview yuv 4:2:2 should work) but the images remain pretty much the same. Moving the webcam seems to change the image slightly, so I think some detail makes it's way into the final image, but still there seems to be an encoding problem of some sort. Any ideas?

One error that appears consistently is as follows:
disk_total_space returned false. Verify the web account user has access to /dev/shm
Although the http user seems to have created files in that directory.

Well, the Spanish country produces corrupted politicians, which is even worse. If you find a solution let us know if could be applied to the government... ;
After more than 15 years, no longer using ZM as surveillance system.
Now in the dark side, using a commercial system...

I've futz'd with web cams a few times. They will work...
You'll need to install uvcdynctrl to set the configuration of the USB cam, then match the config in ZM.
