Firefox hangs on live view of high res camera

I'm running 1.34.10 and a test instance of 1.34.18, and have just added my first high resolution camera (2592x1944). I'm finding that Firefox just absolutely grinds to a halt if I try to view the live feed of this camera, on OSX, Windows 10, and Ubuntu. CPU use pegs at 100% on one or more cores and memory use expands into the several GB range. (these are all 16 or 32GB desktops). I don't get the chance to change the view scale to 1/3 or 1/4 because it hangs too quickly. With "bandwidth" set to Low it's functional enough to get by.
Safari, Chrome, and Edge have no issues even at actual size and High bandwidth, all are quick and responsive and everything works fine. Previously with a 640x480 camera of course there were no issues with any browser.
I'm wondering if this is a known Firefox thing and everyone just uses a different browser, or if I've somehow gotten it to produce a video stream that Firefox deals poorly with, or if I need to change some FF setting add an extension or something. I'm happy to be told it's just how it is, but I'd like to stick with Firefox if I can.
