ZoneMinder Virtual Appliance

Post by JCvanDoorn »

Hi All,

I've just used the LiveCD and that works pretty easy, but would it be an idea to also create a Virtual Appliance (http://www.vmware.com/appliances) for ZoneMinder?

This way, users of any virtualization solution can really get access to ZoneMinder in the quickest and easiest way possible. This would probably not work with all USB based cameras, but for accessing IP camera's it would be ideal! The best thing now, is that there are very simple ways to port VM's from one vendor to another so you would enable an entire Windows community to use ZoneMinder too.

All they would need to do is download the Virtual Appliance and launch it somewhere in their virtual infrastructure.

I'ld love to hear what you think!

Hi,

this sounds interesting. I've just accidentally found http://www.susestudio.com/ maybe it is possible in the future by using this ;)

Happy new year

Absolutely! There are all sorts of alternatives possible. VMware also has something similar which can be found here:

Change network interface to make work

Post by dhorswell »

Just to let anyone know what I needed to do to get this appliance working to save a bit of trouble.

I importes this machine to VMware esxi using vmware converter.
Started the machine bit there was no networ.
After some looking about I found the network was defined as eth2 (by typing ifconfig and looking at the results) but the network defined in /etc/network/interfaces was eth1

Changing the /etc/network/interfaces file to eth2 did the trick and all worked fine.

Note, defining zones did not work in exploree ro chrome but works fine in firefox.
Only problem I have yet to resolve is that exporting events always reports export failed.

Apart from that, all working well.
