ZMLive CD help

Post by mb9023 »

Hi,

So first off, I'm pretty much brand new to Linux. I've been trying to get ZoneMinder set up SOMEHOW over the past week and just can't figure it out. First I had Ubuntu 11.10 and tried installing it from scratch but it nsxeeded so many other things and I spent so much time on Google learning commands to install each thing I eventually gave up. Then I tried ZMLarchCD and of course ZM was already installed, but I couldn't figure out how to set up my webcams. Now I'm on ZMlive and I still can't figure it out. I have a Logitech C910 usb webcam and a Microsoft Lifecam VX5000 usb webcam. Here's my lsusb-

For some reason the forum was telling me my post was too spammy and to remove outside urls..even though I don't have any...so I'm trying to edit things in this paragraph that was supposed to be part of my original post...I think it's all the slashes.

I noticed that these related to dev-usbdev5.2 and 5.3 so I figured that's what I would need to set their source in ZM to that but I still get no picture from either of them as I don't have a dev-video0file. I then decided I must need a driver for them or something, and noticed that in the hardware manager I have USB20 Camera under Uknown / Others and I don't see any signs of a second camera in there. If I run lsmod I don't have uvcvideo I do have v4l2 common...so I'm not sure if that's relative or not. It's hard to troubleshoot when everyone else's solutions seem to be for ubuntu or similar and this is running mandriva which doesn't seem to have all the same commands...

Like I said I'm pretty new to linux so anything you can tell me would be super helpful. This is for a class project and it would be really cool if I could get it working ^_^;

OK well I think part of my problem now is that I don't have UVC driver since this is only linux kernel 2.6.16, and I can't seem to just get it from the ideasonboard site because they have you run a 'git' command which isn't valid in mandriva. Sighh, this is getting a little ridiculous.

Check the wiki and these forums; many step by step build instructions are available and painless.

Yeah I've been doing that for about a week now and none of them have my exact situation with these cameras so following walkthroughs isn't working because they don't address my issue. I think I'm going to go back to Ubuntu and reinstall from scratch, maybe I'll try following that video you linked to and see where it gets me this weekend. Thanks.
