Not recieving emails

Hello all ZM newbee here and i am not receiving any notification emails I have enabled ZM_OPT_EMAIL
I left the defaults only adding my email address here

ZM_NEW_MAIL_MODULES
I added the following values
localhost
zm@computerking.ca
http://68.12.12.12/zm

I also added a filter called frames where *Frames* *greater than or equal to* *1* is the setting. Has email details of all matches checked as well as run filter in background checked.

I have restarted zonemonitor and turned on debug level 9 but find nothing in the logs relating to email what am i missing here?

is your zm box running a mail server? if so your server handling your email may be blocking your ip as spam?

Not to sure if it is running a mail server or not, do i need one, pretty sure ubuntu hardy comes with postfix installed, but might be out going only?? Does Zoneminder need a full blown email server as It is just outgoing email right?? I do have a mail server setup elsewhere should/could i use it instead??

OK i have setup a working instance of ssmtp and verified that i can send mail from the Zoneminder host.

However i am still not seeing anything from zoneminder in my inbox

There are no entries in the /var/log/mail.log regarding zoneminder trying to send mail.

What could be the problem where do i look why is zoneminder not sending me any email.

Do you have sendmail installed? and Perl MIME Lite?

No i have postfix and it is being very difficult not sure what the other perl package you mention is all about. I think zoneminder is doing its thing as i see this in the log but nothing is happening in my mail.log

What do you get when you run zmfilter.pl from the command line? FYI, You don't need postfix for ZM to send emails.

the first time it did a bunch of ftp stuff then i tried to run it again and nothing seems to be happening just sits there. I even triggered a couple of alarms but nothing happened.

Hmmm i have postfix running like a charm and can send regular mail from that host what is missing with zoneminder????????

*****If i run /usr/sbin/zmfilter.pl i get nothing guess that is because zoneminder is taking care of things right??

Strange i have a filter setup to upload email and message me if frames are greater than or equal to 1 also have camera set to motion detection. Nothing is being uploaded once in while if i trigger an alarm it will awake and send a message. seems to always be a fair bit behind anyways i

found a few of these in the logs tried setting the perms to 777 but still know help
