openSuSE 10.3 - No Images - Daemon Start Failed

Hello, all. i am new here, and baby-fresh to ZM, as well as LAMP. (I've used Linux exclusively for 6 months.) I have read the FAQ, most of the instruction manual up to the point I've reached, and searched the forums and web like crazy. I have not been able to solve the issue, but hopefully I've been able to find out what info I need to provide you.

I am using openSUSE 10.3, and a logitech quickcam express (usb).

I installed ZM v1.22.3-20 via YaST. I followed the instructions here:

http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... s_for_SuSE

I did add the pacman repos, and selected the mp version, though YaST said it was pulling from the liquid-co repo (which is not supposed to caontain the mp version - - but that is probably beside the point)

I ran through the setup of apache, mysql, and zm described on the page above, and all went fine. No errors.

When I go to localhost/zm, I have the interface, and is says running at the top. But when I click on the monitor I added, there is no image. (My webcam does work in kopete.)

So I began troubleshooting, and the first thing I did was this:

Code: Select all

# rczm restart
Shutting down ZoneMinder Daemon done
Starting ZoneMinder Daemon failed
So the daemon is failing to start.

I searched the forums, and found a user request the following command and output, so here's mine:

Code: Select all

# sh -x /etc/init.d/zm start

This post is rather long already, and I don't want to provide anything unnecessary, so please let me know what, if any, logs you would like.. or any other info. You would have to explain it to me in pretty simple terms. I am fairly comfortable with linux, though I am relatively new to SuSE, but when it comes to (L)AMP and ZM, I haven't a clue.

Thanks for your time.

Logs etc are discussed in the sticky at the top of the forum but in your case I would specifically check zmpkg.log, zmdc.log and /var/log/messages

hi,

you should try "zmpkg.pl start" and "zmpkg.pl stop" instead of the init skript (rczm start and rczm stop) to get a more detailed start failure message.

?
remove old log files and start zoneminder again and paste log files?

So the daemon is failing to start.
use "zmpkg.pl start" and "zmpkg.pl stop" to stop and start zoneminder. rczm start/stop supsresses error messages in the cli. when using "zmpkg.pl start" error messages are displayed in the cli. this messages can help to debug why start failes.

when there is no problem with the start you might have other issues not related to the daemon start.

you will get no image when the settings for your video source is not conigured properly.
make sure that these settings are correct for your camera/video card.

hope this helps
