Linked monitors broken in latest releases?

Hi,

Bit confused by this...have seen other posts, but confused by them too as they seem to contradict a bit (or maybe things have just changed?).

As others seem to do, I have several IP cameras where I use their high resolution streams with monitors for event and live viewing, and their low resolution streams for event detection. I have no interest in viewing the events/recording of the low resolution monitors, so would rather do everything to reduce their impact on overall CPU etc. and just have them as pure triggers for their high resolution counterparts.

As it stands I'm using the latest master PPA (v1.35.14) on Ubuntu 20.04, and I have the following:

* High resolution "Nodect" ffmpeg monitors with "Save JPEGs: Disabled", "Video Writer: H264 Camera Passthrough" and no detection zones
* These are linked to low resolution "Modect" ffmpeg monitors with "Save JPEGs: Disabled", "Video Writer: Disabled" and detection zones setup

I think that (mostly) follows the suggestion here viewtopic.php?t=29007#p113698 but with this setup I get events on the low resolution monitors but no triggering at all of their companion high resolution monitors.

I have had this working, at various points, with some success, but I think with various combinations of having "Video Writer: H264 Camera Passthrough" on the low resolution monitors and/or (redundant?) detection zones present on the high resolution monitors. I think I'm basically seeing some of the observations detailed here: viewtopic.php?t=28279#p110449 ; I see no errors in the logs.

Should this all work with no detection zones on the high resolution monitors and "Save JPEGs: Disabled" + "Video Writer: Disabled" on the low resolution monitors to which they're linked?

If not, what's the recommended setup for achieving triggering in this sort of setup and keeping CPU/memory as low as possible?

Bit more on this, since I've left things running with a single setup:

I'm definitely getting no triggering of my Nodect monitors from their linked/companion Modect monitors, if:

* The Nodect monitors have no detection zones
* The Modect monitors they're linked with have "Save JPEGs: Disabled" + "Video Writer: Disabled"

The Modect monitors are recording motion events though, which I'd initially thought was enough for them to trigger a Nodect monitor linked to them?

Is this a bug with 1.35.x or am I missing a combination of things that need to be in place for the Nodect/Modect linked setup to work with minimal processing overhead?

mmm...not sure what's going on here.

I changed the setup with the following differences from the above:

* The Nodect monitors now have a detection zone
* The Modect monitors now have "Save JPEGs: Disabled" + "Video Writer: H264 Camera Passthrough"

After that: 18 events detected from one of the Modect monitors (nothing new there) but still nothing triggered for the Nodect monitor that's linked to it.

I ought to add that the Nodect monitors record events fine if I manually trigger an alarm, it's just they aren't being triggered from their companion Modect monitors (and also confirm that they're setup the "right" way round i.e. the link to the Nodect monitors is made from each Modect monitor).

Anyone any ideas on why this isn't working?
Am I missing something obvious in this setup?

I'm currently troubleshooting a similar setup, where my linked high res nodect monitors are not triggering from their low res modect counterparts under 1.35.14~20201123104159-focal. For me, things were/are working fine under 1.35.12~20201028131153-focal. Maybe try downgrading and see if it works for you too?

Well, the answer is that, yes, they were working "OK" with a prior version of 1.35.* - not sure which. Unfortunately though, that wasn't *this* installation - I had a hard-disk failure, so this is a clean install of the latest 1.35.*.

Also, when I say working "OK", they were working to the extent that I got most (but not all) of the triggered events from the Modect monitors on the Nodect ones.

So, I think I've tried most combinations of the various options to try and get linked monitors working with the very latest release (at the time of writing that's 1.35.14~20201127133119-focal) - doesn't seem to be working.

I've not tried downgrading to 1.35.12~20201028131153-focal, as suggest by johncolby - it's not vital to me, at the moment, that this all works, so I'll stick with whatever the latest release is and hope it informs development (I realise that we're in "things can and will be broken" in 1.35.* land ).

Changing the subject title as a few of us seem to be seeing this and to make it a bit more appropriate.

Nothing revealing to my admittedly novice eyes here. The linked cam says it is "Linking to monitor 2", which sounds correct, but then no linking happens when an event gets triggered on monitor 2. Maybe I should be looking in some of the other component logs?

Also, I do note that there have been some code changes in the vicinity of linked monitor handling between my last known working package (1.35.12~20201028131153-focal) and my first known NOT working package (1.35.14~20201123104159-focal):

MONITOR-HighRes: Linked to MONITOR-LowRes, Nodect Mode
MONITOR-LowRes: No-Linked, Modect Mode

On events, only the MONITOR-LowRes is recording events. Nothing happens on MONITOR-HighRes...

Something peculiar going on...

I'm currently on 1.35.15~20201204114937-focal and I've had some events triggered on my high resolution monitors - although only a small subset of those recorded on the low resolution monitors e.g. the events I get every day when the cameras switch from the night to day viewing.

These are the first events that have been triggered on the high resolution monitors since my re-install using the master PPA (on opening the thread).
