4 cams but different storage amount

Post by damnsharp »

Good afternoon,
I've set-up ZM on a Ubuntu system. I have 4 different camera's but set them up the same configuration on ZM.
General tab: function Recording
Source tab: RTSP, 640x480 (to reduce space),
Storage tab: save JPEG disabled, video writer H264 passthrough
Misc tab: Section lenght 900 (15 minutes)

But I see a huge difference in total storage space per camera after one day.
cam1 13,1 GB
cam2 3 GB
cam3 4,5 GB
cam4 9,5 GB

Also not all clips are 15 minutes.

And... when I try to view an event on 3 camera's it's function o.k. but on one camera I get the message "this video could not be loaded"

No idea why.
Hopefully there are some tips. Thanks! :D

If you are doing passthrough, you need to look at the cameras. It can't be ZM causing the size difference.

Your event view problem may be solved in the same way, hard to say.

There are many options on cameras that can change the size of the image. Quality and compression type are good places to start.
Complexity of the image can greatly affect the image size. The picture of a blank wall will compress well, the picture of a tree in a yard will compress less well.

For one camera I've now used another rtsp link and it changed in video size :-)
I had the "1280x720" stream but within ZM I choose recording as 640x480.
Now I choose the 640x480 stream and recording 15 minute file is dropped from 480MB to 110MB. Yes!

So thanks for the help. Now I understand that I also have to update settings on the camera itself (or change rtsp stream).
