broken debian upgrade to 1.30->1.32: multiple broken monitors

Post by marcmerlin »

All my cameras were working with 1.30. Upgrading to 1.32 broke a lot of things, some of them were due to packaging issues.

Now, all my cameras that use RSTP on some way, seem to fail, and in different ways. Of course, my settings worked perfectly fine with ZM 1.30:
zmc_m17[11011]: WAR [zmc_m17] [Can't find payload details for audio payload type 97, name MPEG4-GENERIC]
zmc_m17[11011]: WAR [zmc_m17] [Can't find payload details for application payload type 111, name X-KATA]
zmc_m17[11011]: WAR [zmc_m17] [The device is using a codec that may not be supported. Do not be surprised if things don't work.]

zma_m17[10809]: WAR [zma_m17] [Impossible situation. No timestamp on captured image index was 0, image-buffer_count was (50)]
zma_m17[10809]: WAR [zma_m17] [Impossible situation. No timestamp on captured image index was 0, image-buffer_count was (50)]
Wansview RTP/Unicast port 80 /live/ch0

zma_m23[10983]: ERR [zma_m23] [Shared data not initialised by capture daemon for monitor cam-mailbox-rear]
zmc_m23[17527]: WAR [zmc_m23] [Can't find payload details for audio payload type 97, name MPEG4-GENERIC]

zmc_m24[10945]: WAR [zmc_m24] [Can't find payload details for audio payload type 97, name MPEG4-GENERIC]
zmc_m24[10945]: ERR [zmc_m24] [Unexpected response code 404, text is 'Stream Not Found']
both reolink rlc-410 RTP/RTSP port 554 path /h264Preview_01_main

I've enabled PATH update, and I get this:
zmc_m24[31781]: INF [zmc_m24] [Received new Content-Base in DESCRIBE response header. Updated device Url to: 'rtsp://192.168.205.88/h264Preview_01_main/']
zmc_m24[31781]: WAR [zmc_m24] [Can't find payload details for audio payload type 97, name MPEG4-GENERIC]
zmc_m24[31781]: ERR [zmc_m24] [Unexpected response code 400, text is 'Bad Request']

This is quite vexing as now ZM is mostly dead in the water, and downgrading is very non trivial :-/

Any suggestions? Thanks, Marc

Can you confirm the streams are working in ffmpeg and/or VLC? Also see https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Finding_Camera_Stream_Paths

VLC is from gui. FFMPEG is from terminal (ffmpeg -i "rtsp://<user>:<pass> etc..." output.mp4)

Does onvif report the same paths? I've seen cameras change paths after disconnecting from them, and installing a new ZM. Onvif should indicate where they are.

Switch to ffmpeg type monitors.

Also switch to master 1.33.15. We are close to release of 1.34 and have fixed a lot since 1.32

Sorry for the late reply, thank you for doing that. So, it looks like the onvif manager is broken in 1.32 and honestly while I wish I had never upgraded to start with, further upgrading to source from master, seems like just making a bad matter even worse. If stable releases aren't stable, how can I trust top of tree?
In the meantime, debian, seems to have nothing newer that 1.32.

Back to the point, one of my broken cameras is not even using RSTP, but jpegs.
http://wansview-q2-1.svh.merlins.org/mj ... .cgi?chn=0 still works fine from a browser.
In ZM, it's setup as

/mjpeg/snap.cgi?chn=0
24bit
1920

it was working in ZM 1.30, and not 1.32

For the second camera, rlc / cam-mailbox:

I don't know why I didn't notice this earlier. 1.32 and later have the ability to record audio. This was not in 1.30. It may be that the audio stream is incompatible.

Post the full output of "ffmpeg -i <stream> output.mp4" you did earlier

Then, go on the camera, and look to disable audio recording. Post the full output of ffmpeg -i again, and confirm the audio is absent (ffmpeg will indicate what streams (audio, video) it is recording when it starts). Finally, see if ZM works with audio disabled.

For the wansview:
try FFMPEG. I believe it will work with MJPEG/JPEG.

As for onvif, there are other programs, aside from ZM that should also do the same thing. More than one way to do it.

Thanks @snake, good call on the audio.
I checked my RLC cameras, I made sure record audio is off, well, except that out.mp4 has audio anyway like you guessed. WTF?
Looks like it adds audio in the stream even if it's not recorded by the camera (turned off in settings).
For jpeg capture, which is my bigger problem right now as I use this on most my other cameras, I'll make a separate reply as it's a different issue.

Back to rstp, is there a way to turn off attempts at audio processing in ZM 1.32?

Jpeg capture is like a basic feature that's been in ZM forever. How can it be broken? How can I debug the meager error messages it's giving me while processing those jpegs that are otherwise perfectly fine when retrieved in a browser?

Here's a jpeg from http://cam-outgarage1/mjpeg/snap.cgi?chn=0
identify /tmp/s.jpeg
/tmp/s.jpeg JPEG 1920x1080 1920x1080+0+0 8-bit DirectClass 224KB 0.000u 0:00.000
You can get the full jpeg here: http://marc.merlins.org/tmp/wansview-q2-1.jpg

Why would ZM be unhappy with it and say this?
"No timestamp on captured image index was 0, image-buffer_count was (50)]" seems like a clue

Re: broken debian upgrade to 1.30->1.32: multiple broken monitors

For what its worth, I too upgraded to 1.32 on Debian (Sid) and found myself with an essentially useless ZoneMinder installation. I bit the bullet and moved to 1.33.

All is fine now. 1.33 is by far the most stable ZoneMinder installation I have enjoyed to date.

ZMRepo has packages for 1.33 for Debian.

Can always go back to 1.32 if that doesn't work. As was mentioned, I would try FFMPEG for the jpeg cameras. Functionally its no different from Remote to the end user.

Thanks snake. https://zmrepo.zoneminder.com/ it is, will look.
As for jpeg pull vs ffmpeg/rtsp, they are quite different.
1) I have 15 cameras and more network bandwidth than CPU on my server. rtsp requires work to handle the compressed video, more work than jpegs
2) if my server gets overwhelmed, the rstp shoved at it will get out of sync, I'll get half frames, garbage that will trigger events and I don't want that. RSTP is generally fragile because there is no flow control, you keep up or you lose. Jpeg has no such issue.

Generally I'm sad that such a simple day 1 feature as jpeg is now half broken in ZM 1.32, at least the debian version, and that the logs and even debug logs, give 0 information as to what's going on.
Since I'm hosed as of right now, I'll upgrade to 1.33, but I don't think I can go back to 1.32, just like I can't go back to 1.30. Once my DB has been upgraded, I don't think downgrades work.

Without looking at the code, in 1.33 (and assuming also 1.32) audio is only recorded in FFMPEG and storage of H264 passthrough.

I don't know if it still parses the audio, when you use either Save JPEG or H264 encode, but I suppose you should try that. May be worth investigating whether audio parsing should be disabled, if it's not enabled. Here it looks like bad audio broke the recording.

Mmmh, the only i386 package I found doesn't seem very happy on my system

vikiyaty wrote: Sun Dec 22, 2019 4:22 pm Sorry for the late reply, thank you for doing that. So, it looks like the onvif manager is broken in 1.32 and honestly while I wish I had never upgraded to start with, further upgrading to source from master, seems like just making a bad matter even worse. If stable releases aren't stable, how can I trust top of tree?
Unfortunately, that's exactly my thought too (and I wrote something similar upthread).
I've been using and contributing/writing to open source for over 25 years, and most times I've seen this happen, it's always been between bad news and very bad news for general code health.

Even if stick with ZM, which I'm really reconsidering now given how much time I've lost on it, how can I ever trust new versions, never mind code between releases?

I am grateful to all the volunteers who have put work into this code. Where it's gone to given where it came from, is truly inspiring, but unfortunately it doesn't negate the above either. Stable releases without clear problems or even possible big regressions, is something paramount to users. Hopefully this is something that can get back on track.
