Very high disk activity and CPU usage with 1.32.3 v 1.32.2

I recently switched from 1.32.2 to 1.32.3 and immediately noticed a huge increase in disk activity, jumping from a few hundred KBytes/sec to anything between 7 MBytes/sec and 25 MBytes/sec.
The CPU usage also jumped from around 25% per core to 60% per core.
Is this normal, or is it just me?
I've just switched back to 1.32.2 and the activity has returned to the previous levels.
