How to enable console Log in zoneminder

Hi,
I have compiled and installed zoneminder and it is working fine. But today when i opened Log tab there is no logs. Means i am unable to see logs when i open it from "Options/Log".
Can anybody tell me what's wrong with it or how to enable it.

is there (in Ubuntu or Debian) a /var/log/zm? does anything from ZM show up in any system logs like /var/log/messages??
Also please indicate which operating system and version of ZM you are working with.

I am using ubuntu 14.04 and zoneminder version is v1.31.1.
And yes /var/log/zm is available but nothing is showing up regarding this.

for logs to show up in /var/log/zm you will need to turn on debugging and increase the log level in Options->Logging
You do not see any entries when you click on the Options/Logging in the web console...does anything ZM related appear in /var/log/messages ???
