ffmpeg version

Post by alabamatoy »

Both of my ZMs are running 1.30.0 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. One is setup as a desktop, the other as a server. Both are running ffmpeg version 2.8.14

I notice that the most recent version of ffmpeg is all the way up to 4.0. I guess somehow dpkg is not updating ffmpeg? Should it be? Does ZM manage the ffmpeg version? Should I upgrade ffmpeg?

Package maintainers are often behind the "official" release of a program. There are a lot of factors and interfaces to keep working. Bionic today shows ffmpeg 3.4.2-2 and may be upgraded by the release next week. We'll just have to wait and see.

As for your boxes I'd not upgrade them if they are "production" as something could break. If you can afford the time keep a record of what you do and post it here if successful. We'd also like to know if you failed but not to point fingers!
