Alarm, Event, Trigger

Post by dmwarren2 »

Hi,

Been running Zoneminder for a few months now - working great - but I'm not really using it to it's full potential.

Would someone be able to give me summarising definitions of:
Event
Alarm
Trigger

I have been reading the documentation (a glossary would be handy) but do not yet have a rigorous understanding of these.

CONTEXT:
I would like to trigger some programs to run when motion is detected - but not necessarily record the 'event'. I believe 'filters' are the thing to use for this.

An event is the result of an alarm that is created by a trigger.
Events contain a series of images that can be viewed as a video.
Alarm is a state when images are being recorded.
Trigger is when the system detects a change in a view area and sets an alarm.

Brilliant. Thanks.
