I understand there is a package, but a PPA implies updates and changes to include automatic updates via the package managers. Just a .Deb file doesn't have those things.

not me and the entire cast of people using or wanting to use some older machines that kick 32bit ass. Just another developer deciding what is best for me? Sorry I need one that is 32 bit....runs great for me and the most stable and best running zoneminder is the Tahr version running on 32 bit machines....rock solid. I just need the same thing for Bionic....makes sense cause I am not recommending to anyone to trash the perfectly good machine because "every one ...or most people are"....running 64 bit.......

I'll get to work on an i386 version. Should have it ready within a day.

OK Folks, here are links to your i386 package for Bionic:

Install procedure is the same for the AMD64 version. Just use the zoneminder-1.30.4-bionic-i386.deb file. I did a quick test with local and IP cameras and checked the API with Zmninja.

Thank you bbunge for creating the i386 version. I unfortunately setup my home server with OpenVPN on Ubuntu 18.04 and didn't want to wipe and start over with 16.04. Installed ZM last night and everything is good to go now. You rock!
