Zoneminder not reconnecting to cameras

I am using zoneminder version 1.30.4, installed zoneminder with the instructions from here. I am using a raspberry pi zero with v4l2rtspserver streaming rtsp unicast to zoneminder, and when I turn off the pi's and turn them back on zoneminder can reconnect to them, but staying down for a long period of time (5 or so minutes I think) zoneminder can not reconnect to them when turned back on.
Is there something I need to change to make sure zoneminder is always looking for the cameras and trying to connect?

Oh/ understand u! try to fix this by script. ping stream IP every 1-30 seconds, if no ping - try Call "curl -XPOST http://server/zm/api/states/change/restart.json" (or go to zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/stable/api.html and read more).
