Hello To whom ever will help

I don't know where to look for my problem I am kind of stupid I just want to know how to get access to my cameras from outside my home I don't get this searching thing on these forums i searched for it but i don't get what it is telling me.

I have tryed to figure this stuff out on my own but i just don't get it. all i want is to be able to log into my server and see what is going on from anywhere i am I even got one of those free Dynamic DNS things to try to log into it from the outside world but i cant seem to understand the whole thing. and the port thing i cant seem to figure out what port i am on with this server.

I am running PFSense as my firewall router and it is tied to an DSL modem router from my ISP so i am not getting how that all works.

Thank you for any ones time on this matter all i am asking for is a little help.

Looks like it will get even more complicated for you. First, you will need to bridge your DSL modem/router so your pfsense router firewall gets a real IP address instead of a non-routung one from the DSL router/modem. Next you will need to set up port forwarding in the pfsense firewall to your zoneminder server. However, this is a network problem that is outside of this scope of this forum...

Google is your friend!

I thank you for your answer to this question you have gone feather than anyone has ever done for me. I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart things have been kind of bad this year an I have gone through some sad time but you have given me a little hope that there is good folks left in this world. I have goggled things like this but I guess I am to stupid to understand what where or how. I will do more searching for some of the answers you gave to see if I can figure it out.

so I need to Bridge the modem, then I need to port forward the pfsense box to the server is there a port that I need for the start and ending port thing that is another thing I am just not getting. I have done a lot of looking up for the port thing just cant seem to get anything to work they all tell me they are closed so I am having trouble getting the open port figured out. You don't have to help on this but can you give me a little hint on where to goggle for the best answers that someone like me can understand.

Thank you for your kind help I would like to shake your hand for what you have done for me already I am a little closer to understanding it now I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

The dynamic IP service pairs some host name you choose with your DSL routers IP. So any request to the host name (http://for.example.host) will be sent to your DSL routers current IP. What I do without the PFSense is "Port Forward" any request for http port 80 to the local network address of the machine hosting ZM. I would imagine that in the PFSense ports can be opened that would allow such a request for http and web pages to pass through?

I would caution that if you are not familiar with the steps needed to do all this, that you tread very carefully so as not to accidentally open up *too much* of your network :)

You could find that you get it working, but that suddenly people are able to access Zoneminder, your IP cameras directly, and much more besides!

Also: If possible, just to keep the general idiots at bay, don't forward port 80 (external) to your ZoneMinder, as it is the default web port that every hacking script will bang on first. If you can, forward something else, e.g. 81, 8080, 8088 to your internal Zoneminder (which can remain on port 80 for "inside" viewing). Not all firewalls allow this port rewriting, and insist that the same port is used on both sides. For those that do: Use it.

It's only a small step, but enough to keep some of the nuisance away.
