No log entries

Zoneminder running with 4 cameras.
Spent a lot of time getting 2 Axis cameras to work.

on the main Zoneminder display the log button is shown in red (next to the options button)
however not a a single log entriy even though in options logging is set to 'Info'

Any ideas?
