Re: d‘link dsc 5222l ptz
I have had success with various cameras and PTZ control using a generic script.
download and then remove the fake .gz extension and place the IPCAM.pm into /usr/share/perl5/zoneminder/control
then open the camera settings window and open the Control tab (make sure in Options->System->OPT_CONTROL is checked and selected).
check the Controllable box and on the next line Control Type click "edit"
here select add new control and for "name" and "protocol" type "IPCAM"
open the movement tabs and select can move can tilt can pan then "SAVE"
then in the camera settings window pick the new IPCAM and fill in the URL for the camera.
I had to fiddle around with it but along these lines is how I got it to work. There may be a d-link specific control script but I have not found one and have not looked in awhile.
let us know how you make out!

yes that does help! Definitely increasing the available control scripts is also a plus and configuration info with working examples is valuable
