Blue screen, can't authenticate

Please excuse the noob question.
Zoneminder version 1.29 on Ubuntu. New install.
2 IP Cameras, can access them from Firefox, also working on another server (not zoneminder).
If I configure the cameras as remote, http connection, include the user:password@...
I get:

without the user:password, I get authentication failure. Same user and password as I use with browser.
Same result on both cameras, so I must have mis-configured something.
