Installation errors installing on Linux Mint

Post by rlw »

I have spent days trying to install without luck. The installation instructions I followed are Easy Way: Ubuntu 14.x (zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/stable/installationguide/uabuntu.html#harder-way-build-package-from-source). I have checked these instructions plenty of times so pretty sure that I did everything as mentioned.

I'm using Linux Mint 18 Sarah. myPHPadmin works fine. Apache seems to work. ZM database is created (although all of the tables are empty). Zoneminder will not start.

SYSTEM STATUS ZONEMINDER.SERVICE SHOWS THE FOLLOWING:

could you please clarify what you mean just a bit. ...

- Are you suggesting I use this 'Lubuntu 14.04 with Zoneminder 1.29.0 pre-configured CD or USB'
- or installing this 'Zoneminder 1.26.5-1 on Ubuntu 14.04 64 BIT' instead of 1.29

or try them both to see if one of them will resolve the issue?

No, I am suggesting you read the recommendations for installing Zoneminder on a desktop system. With a desktop system you need to get LAMP up and running before installing Zoneminder. I recommend you not use a desktop system to run Zoneminder as the GUI can eat up a lot of resources. We do not recommend you build from source unless you are a Linux wiz. The installs included with Ubuntu and the installs from the PPA will work if you follow the steps in the guides. If you want a way to manage the "server" remotely just install Webmin. Of course there are some learning curves to that as well...

thanks. I did go through the lamp installation although it was after installing zoneminder when I was trying to make it work. I will remove zoneminder then focus on lamp to make sure everything was installed and working before re-installing zoneminder.

I hadn't planned on using the desktop for the permanent install but wanted to check out zoneminder first and I do not have another machine where server can be set up at the moment so the resource issue is not really a concern at this point.
