I am trying to set up my zm 1.29 to send email/sms messages at event trigger, but I don't see any option to use TLS or the correct TLS port. Is there something I have missed?

The ZM email settings are pretty basic and, as I understand, can send directly to a SMTP server. What you want to do may require you to feed the emails to a sendmail program such as nullmailer. Nullmailer used to be installed by default but you can add it manually. It is easy to configure. Check Google for configuration instructions then use localhost in EMAIL_HOST in ZM options.
