Zoneminder Updateble Appliance ?

Post by DasBrot »

Hi

Im serching for a zoneminder appliance that is upgradeble.

Every one i found comes with an old zoneminder version.

i have an Zoneminder on ubuntu working, but not at all (Zoneminder autostart not working etc.) its very tricky for me to build one from a new system.

Is there a appliance für non Linux pro´s outside ?

Haven't seen one. Have you looked into FreeNAS community?
Perhaps someone over there has worked on a zoneminder addon package.

Thanks, but there is no zoneminder package in freenas. (but this is a good idea)

im searching for a emergency installation when the Harddisk is gone or similar.
My Zoneminder installation is working but ... it was a lot of trouble and weeks for error searching. So i cannot build another one in one day.

If this is about being able to recover following a disaster, then you could do something along these lines:

1) do a one time clone of your os (skip the events folder) and put it in a safe place
2) Perform regular backups of your dB and put them in a safe place
3) If recovering your events is important to you, rsync them regularly to a safe location

To recover from a total disaster you would:
1) restore the disk image
2) yum update /apt-get update your machine
3) restore your database
4) restore your events
5) start zoneminder

Additionally, you should be using a ZoneMinder package, rather than building from source, if you are not already. This minimizes the amount work & pain you might experience during upgrades. Here is a youtube of me installing ZoneMinder from zmrepo, configuring 1 camera from a fresh copy of CentOS 6, in just over 8 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2lLvl8WxfU

You could install Docker and run one of the many available ZM Docker containers.

This is for CentOS 5 and 6... and Zoneminder 1.25.0 is this working with Centos 7 too ?
if not CentOS 6 is ok, but can i Upgrade the ZM 1.25 to 1.28.0 ?

The youtube video steps through installing the latest version of ZoneMinder on CentOS 6.

This does not apply to CentOS 5, nor does the video apply to very old versions of ZoneMinder, such as 1.25.

To see what ZoneMinder rpm's are supported on which Redhat distros, go here:
http://zmrepo.zoneminder.com/

Then read the installation documentation.
