I would highly recommend the Amovision AM-Q1139 with the Sony 1080P 1/2.7" 25FPS sensor and 3-12mm electronic lens (zoom and focus).

AM-Q1139, 2.0 Megapixel HD Network 4X Zoom IR-Bullet Camera - http://www.amovision.com/products/Hd_ne ... C/599.html

The AM-Q1039 would be a good alternative with the Aptina sensor.

Budget? If its big lots of great cams are out there. If its minimal I recently found a source for pretty decent 720P IP cams for about $35 that I have had great results with. The built-in interface in those cams is pretty poor but I only use it to set video parameters and have worked out a way to set brightness, contrast, etc with a bash script anyway. The RTSP streaming works just fine. The seller ships very promptly, took about 2 weeks to get from China to So California. Highly recommended for doing it 'on the cheap'.

I use one of those for our large backyard and with the addition of a $15 IR illuminator the nighttime view is insane. Its like day. Without the illuminator the night performance is decent enough but in a large yard with lots of trees and dark areas most cams need an extra illuminator for best coverage.

Hi Linuxsense,
Could you elaborate on what you used for an iluminator?
I got a speed dome H264 cam but the IR leds do not come on, they will give me a new camera if I send this one back but its going to cost me 45 bucks to send it back and I have my doubts about ever recieving a new one in return...
Cheers,
Jon

I used one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008GTAPSO

Quite a few similar options available in that price range.

I have a 3MP camera supporting YUY2, MJPEG and H.264. This said, I do not seem to be able to figure out on how to get H.264 raw stream encoding handled with the camera's on-board processing unit :-(
