tmpfs for /dev/shm question

Post by elmer »

I'm looking at building a home server with one function being recording a couple IP cams. I'm looking at running ubuntu server off of a flash drive. In order to preserve the flash drive from burning out the internet suggests mounting /var and /tmp as tmpfs so that it's stored in a ramdisk instead of on the flash drive. I'm curious if anyone has any opinions on whether or not this will cause issues with the newest versions of zoneminder. My build is a small form factor so I've only got two ram slots, which I will occupy with a single 8gb stick. Am I going to run into issues doing this? Will I need more ram?

This is the main instruction I'm referencing: http://www.chrisnewland.com/using-linux ... fespan-186
