PELCO PTZ THROUGH USB PORT ZONEMINDER 1.26.5

Post by JonatanGarces »

Hi!

I'm new in the community.
I installed a speed dome camera Hikvision ds-2df1-518 and configured zoneminder to see the camera image through remote rtp/rtsp and ffmpeg both successfully, but the ptz , due to i haven´t seen any protocol compatible with the camera, i bought a large wire, a cable sabrent usb to rs232(serial) and plug to this to a rs232/rs485 converter and connect the camera to my laptop usb port. I already tested the connection with the ispy free software (installed virtualbox windows 7 through com3) and the camera ptz responded when i sent the signal with my laptop with pelco p and pelco d protocols.

But i can't make it work with zoneminder send the ptz pelco protocol(any of those two) through serial (usb port) and still use ffmpeg or remote source.
root@user:/home/user# ls /dev/serial/by-id
usb-Prolific_Technology_Inc._USB-Serial_Controller-if00-port0
root@jonatan:/home/jonatan# ls /dev/serial/by-path/
pci-0000:00:1d.0-usb-0:1.3:1.0-port0

i typed dev/ttyUSB0 in control device but nothing os:Ubuntu 12.04 desktop

please help! i will be very grateful
i been with this problem for weeks

sorry for my english i haven't practiced it in a while

Hi JonatanGarces,

I know that serialports are normally closed on Ubuntu boxes...

So a solution could be to add the user (www-data) to the dialout group.

something like: sudo adduser www-data dialout

Regards and success!!
