Hello All,
I haven't messed with Zone Minder since approximately 2007. Back then, I had little issue getting Fedora setup and ready for zm to compile and install. I tried to get it working a couple years ago in Fedora 17 without success. I've since tried with Fedora .19 but can't get the OS installer to start due to a bug that won't work with my video card.
I've since switched to Gentoo. I'm close, but no cigar. I have Apache, Mysql, PHP, ZM, and I believe all their dependencies added. I'm getting an error when trying to hit the zm base page though.
I guess my question is if there is a Linux distro for which zm is an easier install. Let me know what you think.
Thanks in advance,
-Ethan

Re: Easiest Linux distribution for ZM
CentOS, or if you prefer being more up to date, Fedora.
We have RPMs for both. I personally use CentOS 6.4 on my intel atom box, works well.

Thanks Kfir. I'll give Fedora .19 another try.

Question for you all.
I'm trying to install the src rpm from the link above (I'm running 32 bit arch) and am getting the errors below. I've installed Date::Manip via rpm and perl -MCPAN -e shell and MIME::Entity via MCPAN to no avail. Do you have any ideas on a workaround?
error: Failed build dependencies:
perl(Date::Manip) is needed by zoneminder-1.26.5-1.fc19.i686
perl(MIME::Entity) is needed by zoneminder-1.26.5-1.fc19.i686
Thanks again,
-Ethan

Next time, please post package related issues into the appropriate, previously mentioned thread. It'll speed up the amount of time it takes for the appropriate person (i.e. me) to see your post.snoz wrote:Question for you all.

The short answer to your question is these rpms:
Note that you should not have to install anything from source including/especially the perl modules. If you start going down the path of "perl -MCPAN -e shell" then stop. Something is wrong.perl-Date-Manip-6.42-1.fc19.noarch
perl-MIME-tools-5.504-1.fc19.noarch
For starters, make sure you've got an rpmbuild environment set up correctly. These instructions work for both centos and fedora: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/SetupRpmBuildEnvironment
Next, following the instructions here: http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... =9&t=21400 , make sure you add the rpmfusion repo and the two extra perl rpm's.
Lastly, these rpms are based on Fedora 19. I have not tried these on nor installed Fedora 20 so I don't know what to expect. They may work fine.
