As soon as I define a zone my sources are orange

As soon as I define a custom zone which limits the frame in any way my sources are orange?
There are no other symptoms of any abnormality other than the color. The cameras still work; events are being captures and recorded.
As soon as I remove the custom zone; in other words either I remove the zone altogether OR the zone is expanded to include the entire frame then the sources are back in green?
