I have tried to get working Zoneminder in Ubuntu 11.10 desktop for many days, but it is not succeeded.
Can anyone help me! I need the flowcart, how can I install zm step by step. I have gone through many hints in web,
but I don´t get any picture from my camera.
My camera is cheep camera with TW68 driver and Tecweel 6805 chipset. I can get the picture by Cheese, that means the driver works rigth in Ubuntu. I can get in zm by the adress: Localhost/zm
In Zoneminder is /dev/video0 red and the picture of monitor is quite white (nothing). Something is missing, but I don´t know which.

Thanks from the answer,but it do not help me. My problem is the same. I get the picture by xawtw and cheese, but not zoneminder. The size of the picture 320 x 240,Pla-B1, ... do not help. /dev/video(0) is still red and monitor is white.

/dev/video(0) isn't right, it should be /dev/video0(0): that means device /dev/video0, channel 0.

if that doesn't solve the problem, i'm building a 16 camera server with 2 tw6805 card right now: v4l2, 640x480, PAL, YUYV, 2 frames/sec, seems to be working for me (I still have other unsolved problems anyways ).
What ZM did you install ? Just to begin with zm, I suggest you to use the zm version in the ubuntu repositories.

Capture Palette: YUYV
with: 320

Why this is so difficult! I have tried with all versions of Unutu, Kubuntu and also CentOs server, but never get it working!

In terminal:
ls /dev --> video0,
but in Zoneminder only /dev/video(0).
What is wrong in zm?
I have installed zm in terminal:
sudo apt-get install zoneminder
sudo ln -s /etc/zm/apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/zoneminder.conf
sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 force-reload
service zoneminder start
then open browser

I'm not sure where the brackets come in, certainly not on the device path variable line. Device channel variable is the second zero he's showing in brackets but entered on a separate line without brackets as in:

Probeing gives: Unable to probe network cameras, status is 127.
I had reloaded Zoneminder, but it did not help.
My console looks like:

It seems to me, that I need a clear instructions, how to install Zoneminder to Ubuntu 11.10 desktop.

Still I am working to get Zoneminder to work. What is this wrong and how can I get it right?
ZM-Console: Source :dev/video(0) ! this is red !
Monitor: Source: Device Path: /dev/video<?> !Why this, I think, that it must be /dev/vido(0) !
Capture method: Video for Linnux version 2
Device Channel is 0, which is right.
Device format: PAL
Palete: YuYv and so on.

As a cautionary note: by changing the resolution to 640*480 you may have compounded your problem if ./configure had mmap=no (using shared memory).
Probing this type of setup is useless as it's designed for network cameras not cameras on a capture card.
Your device is still incorrect; you need to edit it to read exactly as the screen shot I posted earlier (/dev/video0). I tried the brackets on my setup and doesn't work.

Jepee! I have got it working! I put into Device Path /dev/video0 (in ZM console, Source :/dev/video0(0) ) and then i gave with termial: service zoneminder start. It is working!
