Multiple Hard Drives

Post by Juicethemoose »

I've been running Zoneminder with a 9 camera ip setup for the last couple months. I set up everything on a 1 Tb drive, where I currently get about 4 days worth recorded video. I'd like to add second bigger drive to increase the history. I'm considering getting a 3Tb drive to triple my space. I read here how to use a dedicated drive. http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.ph ... Hard_Drive

Seems simple enough to do but I also read that there are issues with the purgewhenfull on multiple drives due to ZM reading the capacity of the boot drive and not the storage drives. http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... 139#p37139 . Purgewhenfull is essential to my setup.

Has any one had any experience with this? Is anyone using multiple drives and purgwhenfull?

Thanks!

ZM uses the storage drive to calc purgewhenfull percentages. Your plan will work ok.

4 days for 9 cams suggest you're running at a very high fps and/or resolution. Most people don't need high fps for recordings, 3 to 5 is normal. I get several weeks on 1tb drives and 20 odd cams. (mix of modect and record)

If you use LVM (Logical Volume Manager) then you can add disks without actually changing the filesystem location etc. Some distros, Centos, Fedora etc use it by default so it's worth checking that first.
