Path for Chinese IP cameras?

Post by algenon »

Hi all,
I have purchased two Chines IP cameras to replace a couple of Axis cameras.
They are both online and streaming to IE8. However I cannot work out the Remote Host Path for ZM.

The two camers are;
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/h-264-720p ... rj45-47856
This has a VERY good image at 1280 x 720 pixels.

and

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/ip-400-sta ... sion-15974
This is about equal to an Axis 205.

It would be appreciated if someone could help.

Thanks .... Algenon.

I have two of the latter running smoothly. Not /quite/ as good as the 205, but they're very good value for money. Cheapest reliable ip cam I've seen.

The path is simply; /image.jpg at 640x480 and colour, getting around 5fps.

The other one - don't know. Doesn't say jpg or mjpeg is supported, but could possibly be read via ffmpeg.

Hi,

I also have one of the second type:

Remote Host Name: user:password@your.ip.address.here
Remote Host Path: /image.jpg

Regards,

PacoLM

After more than 15 years, no longer using ZM as surveillance system.
Now in the dark side, using a commercial system...

Thanks Flasheart,
I can access the /image.jpg setting in IE8 so I will try later with ZM.

The first camera uses a H.264 MPEG 4 video stream, I think so it may be a bit more complex.

EDIT: Thanks also PacoLM for fast reply.

I'm after replacing an analog camera with a higher resolution one, but have always been put off by the price.

These look good though. I dont suppose either of you could post a few pics of their night vision could you?
Also, are they weatherproof, as it will have to go outside?
Thanks

Kevin - the cheaper one: No, not weatherproof, although would fit in a standard enclosure with some bodging.

I do have mine mounted outside, positioned underneath the eaves to keep rain off and that's fine. It's supplied by PoE and a splitter to 5vdc at the camera too. A number of these failed last winter due to the extremely cold temperatures (-15c in Devon) so if you're in a cold environment you'll need better protection

Thanks. Will have to give it some thought as to whether I can get it under some cover.
They look good though - nothing else I've seen for near that money.

Hi Kevin,

I have not been able to get the hi-res one to work in ZM.
This one: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/h-264-720p ... rj45-47856

The quality from it is excellent (for a camera like this). I cannot post an image from it apart from a screenie which may not be of much value. I can read a car number plate from about 150 feet away.

Unfortunately it is NOT water resistant and has no IR illumination LEDs. You would need a separate illuminatior.

I use this one which light up the planet: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/60-led-inf ... hite-41096

But it does have an SD card and can write triggered piccies to it.

I guess others are working on getting the camera to work. I will continue and get back if any joy.

Hmm ... -15C. I guess the monkeys sing soprano out Devon way.

Well, I found out that the 720p camera streams both M-JPEG and H.264 at 1280x720 pixels.

http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/r ... 31MW-.html

If that gives anyone any clues as to how I can get this working in ZM.
Would really like to as the image quality is way better than any of the 300K cams.

Whats the url to see it on IE ?

Try with http://cameraip/video.cgi or /videostream.cgi or /snapshot.cgi

A lot of chinese cameras usa that urls.
Just... enjoy life! :D

Thanks DREMA,

I have tried a combination of your suggestions without luck ... so far. Will keep working on them though.

The URL I use gives the cameras web page. Here is a screenie of it;

http://www.postimg.com/image/38000/photo-37291.jpg

Just click on the image for a full size.
So far I have not been able to find the path. There is no manual with the camera.

Do you have the firmware file?

Try running: strings firmware.file | grep mjpeg to see if you can find anything.

Does that url also work in firefox?

It's not uncommon for cheap cameras to rely on activeX components to get their stream, and this is bad news. Sometimes there are workarounds though.

Thanks Flash
The URL does not work in FF. It asks for Quicktime (in its dreams). I do think that IE wanted to install an update of Active-X prior to it working, or at least a program called ClientOCX.

If you have any ideas of a workaround I would be interested in trying it. As I'm sure more and more people would be interested in these Yum Cha cameras.

Suggestions:

Keep googling, especially any model numbers + linux.

Fish out the activex library and run strings on it (or hex edit) to see if you can find an embedded path.

Use the ie ui to see if there's a snapshot or similar button to a static jpg.

View the source on the camera's http pages, something might be hidden in there.

Try some random paths in desperation.
